Rapid Labels joins fight to save New Zealand’s Hector’s Dolphin

29 September 2009

One of Blue Star Group’s specialist label manufacturers, Rapid Labels, is part of a community effort to raise funds for, and awareness of, conserving New Zealand’s iconic Hector's Dolphin.

Natives of Aotearoa, Hector's Dolphins are unique. One of the smallest marine dolphins in the world, Hector’s dolphins grow no more than 1.5m in length. Only found in New Zealand’s waters, this distinctive grey dolphin with black and white markings and a round dorsal fin is the most easily recognised species of 'kiwi' dolphin.

Numbers have plummeted from 30,000 in the 1970's to just 7,200 today. NIWA research estimates that three Hector's Dolphins die in commercial fishing 'gill' nets every week.

The Central Otago wine making community has banded together in a campaign called “Message in a Bottle”. This campaign will produce 400 cases of Message in a Bottle Pinot Gris wine to raise funds for WWF New Zealand's campaign to save endangered Hector's and Maui's dolphins. The project is aiming to raise more than NZ$50,000.

Rapid Labels has donated the production of special edition wine labels to the campaign. These labels were designed by Gemrock Design and they feature artwork by Jono Moore.

Some cases of Message in Bottle wine have been released for public sale and may be purchased at: https://supersecure.co.nz/users/63/order.htm

Blue Star Group and Rapid Labels are proud to be associated with the fight to save New Zealand’s Hector’s Dolphin.
